At 0144 UTC on February 15, 2011 the first X class solar flare of solar cycle 24 occurred. It was an X2.2. It produced a sudden ionospheric disturbance (SID) and attendant radio blackout that has wiped out the shortwave radio spectrum as high as approximately 35000 khz on the sun facing side of the earth. 73 & GUD DX, Thomas F.
